a visual novel
ryukishi07

an incredible story of equally deep love and trauma. rich, truly multifaceted characters whose victories you will celebrate, and whose flaws you will forgive. mysteries whose answers you will first crave, and by the end of it all beg not to be offered.

a rpg maker game
insertdisc5

masterful writing, art and music. a reminder to not give in to despair, even in the darkest places a mind can dwell. a tale whose themes of relationships, identity, mental illness and loss will break your heart, before repairing it with gold.

a puzzle game
hempuli

daemonical logic puzzles in which nothing can ever be assumed, that will make every victory feel like an exploit, yet incredibly rewarding. an ambient soundtrack and a delightful art style of calculated simplicity, enjoyable even as your neurons melt like an overstressed graphics card.

a jrpg
square

one of my main sources of inspiration for all things fantasy, since i discovered it and still to this day. an incredible soundtrack, compelling characters, and gorgeous graphics. just about everything you could ever ask of a snes square title, and more.

a touhou
zun

my first and favorite touhou! the perfect blend of zun's highly variable character, game and sound designs. spell cards high in color, elegance, and complexity compared to more modern installements in the series. also dear gods mokou is such a cool girl.

a ufo 50 game
mossmouth

brillant concept, brillant execution. delightfully designed levels from start to finish, with a well-adjusted difficulty curve. would've readily bought as a standalone game if it came with a ready-to-use level editor.

a largely narrative game
sunset visitor 斜陽過客

magnificiently crafted scifi literature, with powerful moral and philosophical themes. an experience that is so much less a game than a story, yet knows how to use its medium to go above and beyond a book or visual novel.

a unique platformer
panik arcade

an even crazier crazy taxi with extremely satisfying physics and movement tech. a strong identity with a high-energy soundtrack, unapologetically stupid humor and marvelous lo-poly graphics. a genuinely perfect collectathon i can attest can be 100%'d without a guide.

a mario game
nintendo

first snes title i played, and whose romhacks i don't think i'll ever stop playing. literally the game that turned my life around and made me meet one of my romantic partners. also, the single best physics in all mario games (this isn't an opinion, it's facts, sorry not sorry).

an immersive sim
stuffed wombat

a more than excellent proof that less is more. charming minimalistic visuals, accompanied by etheral ambient music. extremely polished physics, items and levels, complete with one of the best level editors i've ever had the pleasure to tinker with. and above all: very much infinite replayability.
