past

Silat was born in a family that very much fostered its members' musical talents. From a young age, she was taught to play the piano, which everyone ritually played during frequent family reunions. While Silat loved music, she didn't feel great about the social pressure associated to this instrument within her family.

At 12 however, during new year festivities for which all sorts of distant relatives were invited, she met with Aloise: a distant Human aunt who happened to be a luthier in Ajamin, Dantegyr. Silat's family never owned any stringed instruments; she was curious about trying some. After a long talk with her parents in the upcoming weeks, she was allowed to stay at Aloise's house to learn more about her craft.

Silat opened up to Aloise about the pressure she felt having to play for adults on a regular basis; to which her aunt replied "no art is worth it if it doesn't please yourself first". Alongside these words that would stick with Silat for the rest of her life, she showed the young girl how to make a violin from scratch over the course of a couple months, and gifted the resulting instrument to her.

A year or so later, seeking to develop her newfound violinist skills, Silat would enter the same conservatory as a certain Florian. Noticing he had trouble fitting, she decided to approach him, and they quickly developed a wonderful friendship. Though by the end of their studies, right after Silat underwent Somatem, Florian's mood would drastically decline, to the point he'd fail his very last year, which Silat brilliantly finished on her end. As the following years went by, she would often think about what Florian might've become.

After finishing her studies at the conservatory, Silat returned to Aloise's place, now looking for work. After a couple months worth of failed interviews at various places, her talents were eventually noticed by none other than a conductor of the Ajamin Panharmonic Orchestra; she joined it soon after a couple meetings with them.

Silat's life was going great. At this point, she had made enough money to have her own place, she had several good friends at the Orchestra, and maintained a close relationship with Aloise (whom she visited often) as well as her family (with whom she exchanged weekly letters).

On a fateful evening, as she was dining with friends at a cafe, she heard strangely familiar music on the place's mechanical piano. Could it be..? As the dinner ended, she asked the cafe owner who made this particular tune. "Flavie D'Arjane", they said. That was.. eerily similar to Florian's name? Surely, whoever this was, they must've had some relationship with Florian for their music to sound this way. Intrigued, Silat asked for this "Flavie" person's address, and set out to pay them a visit.

Arrived at the apartment, Silat noticed the lights were still on, but she heard no response after knocking several times. Matter of fact, she didn't hear anything at all. Something inside of her sensed the urgency of whatever was happening. She tried opening the door, only to realise it hadn't been locked at all.

Much to her surprise, her former friend was lying on the ground, motionless. Feline features and body modifications aside, this unmistakably was the face (or rather, faces) of Florian. Kneeling down, she tried waking tzem up, in vain. She checked for a pulse: present, but alarmingly faint. Reacting promptly, she called emergency services. Authorities, accompanied by a trained healer, arrived just in the nick of time to stabilise Flavie.

Silat stayed at Flavie's bedside for a full week, helping tzem recover. Once tzey were conscious enough to talk again, they caught up with each other, and Silat explained to Flavie how a single great piece of music inadvertently saved tzeir life.

After an arduous but ultimately full recovery, Flavie moved to Silat's place. Using her connections within the Panharmonic Orchestra, she was able to help tzem obtain a position there. Some more time later, they would finally confess feelings they've had for each other ever since they met.

present

Silat regularly performs as a violinist for Ajamin's Imperial Panharmonic Orchestra. On the side, she studies a number of other stringed instruments from all over the world, hoping to broaden her repertoire.

Silat's skill at distinguishing well-made instruments, that she got from Aloise, came with the realisation she'll probably never be fully satisfied with something not made with her own two hands. However long it takes, she wants to research and learn how to make this "perfect" violin, and present it to the family member that changed her life. Perpetuating an important skill, and showing how much she's grown.

Though Flavie is anxious about it, Silat would love to present tzem to her family. She's also very enthusiastic about introducing tzem to Asralim culture as a whole.
