Vascylly

Vascylly is a green-skinned Nereid (a vegetal, leaf-haired humanoid) whose lineage is based on carnivorous plants. They, in particular, are based on venus flytraps; their head is adorned with 6 functional extra mouths resembling flytraps.

Due to a birth defect caused by poisoned birthing grounds, Vascylly also has 4 radially arranged legs.

Vascylly grows up with his mother, older brother and older sister in a medium-sized farm where they cultivate a rare cereal called serille. Vascylly's father died shortly before their birth, due to prolonged exposure to pesticides widely used in the region.

Despite this, Vascylly has a happy childhood and stays close to their family, contributing tirelessly to the property's maintenance. Though their family doesn't neglect their education and sends them to school, they prove too busy to get any sort of higher education.

During a summer of especially poor harvest, Vascylly's family is approached by a local Human landlord called Darlen, who wants to acquire the farm. Despite his insistence, Vascylly's family refuses to sell their home and land.

A couple weeks later, strong and sudden fires greatly damage several farms and orchards, including Vascylly's. Not even a week later, Darlen returns with the same offer as before. Vascylly talks to other families, and quickly understands the fires were ordered by the landlord. But without proof of his crimes, the local guard refuses to take action.

Conspiring with a handful of farmers unbeknownst to their family, Vascylly is designated to infiltrate Darlen's house and search for evidence. Meanwhile, the farmers will capture Darlen's subordinates. But as they rummage through his papers, Darlen returns way earlier than expected. A fistfight ensues, during which Vascylly grabs a heavy paperweight to knock out their opponent; swinging too hard, they kill the landlord.

Panicked at the idea of being arrested for murder and getting their family in trouble, Vascylly discretely collects their personal belongings and leaves the region by boat clandestinely. They only leave behind a letter of apology to their family.

Arrived on the continent of Aldys, in the port of Ambrose, Vascylly stays there and finds a job as a docker. After a couple years of hard work, they accumulate enough money to enter a public mage academy, where they successfully learn antimancy.

Ever since they left home, Vascylly stays in touch with their sister by mail; they have promised their family they'd work hard to allow them to move to Aldys with them, and acquire a new farm.

As a certified antimancer, Vascylly contributes to a variety of close protection jobs; like being a bodyguard for important figures, or securing transfers of dangerous sorcerer convicts.

As an antimancer, Vascylly uses their own magic energy to negate their opponents'. They can counter spells, temporarily prevent magic users from casting them, and disable the properties of magic items.

Vascylly also masters several staple offensive spells, both at short and long range.

Vascylly's name is a portmanteau of Russian-French painter Wassily Kandinsky and Greek mythology monster Scylla.
